TERMS & CONDITIONS
  1. Program Operator The Foreword (“TFW”) is a program of Terra Education Travel, LLC (“Terra”). Throughout these Terms & Conditions, “The Foreword” and “TFW” refer to the program and its administration and operations. By enrolling in a TFW program, the student and the student’s parent or legal guardian, where applicable, acknowledge and agree to these Terms & Conditions.
  2. Enrollment and Tuition Payment A prospective student is considered enrolled upon acceptance by TFW into the applicable program. Unless otherwise agreed to in writing, tuition for all online programs is due in full at the time of application. Payment plans may be considered on a case-by-case basis and must be arranged directly with The Foreword. If an applicant is not accepted into the program, any tuition paid will be refunded in accordance with the applicable refund policy. TFW accepts payment by eCheck, check by mail, and major credit card, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Enrollment and participation may be delayed, suspended, or cancelled if required payments are not received by the applicable due date. A $25 fee will apply to any returned or rejected payment.
  3. Payment Plans Payment plans may be available on a limited basis upon request and are subject to approval by TFW. Any approved payment plan may be subject to additional terms and payment deadlines communicated at the time of approval. Failure to make payments according to an approved payment plan may result in suspension of program participation, cancellation of enrollment, and/or loss of access to mentor sessions until the outstanding balance is resolved.
  4. Credit Card Payments:
    • Processing Fee. Payments made by credit card are subject to a 2.75% processing fee. The applicable fee will be disclosed before the credit card transaction is completed.
    • Acceptance of Fee. By completing a credit card payment, the payer acknowledges and accepts the applicable processing fee.  All credit card fees are non-refundable.
  5. Refund and Cancellation Policy: Refund eligibility is determined by the number of mentor sessions completed at the time TFW receives a written cancellation request.
    • Before the First Mentor Session: If tuition has been paid and the student has not yet completed their first mentor session, the student is eligible for a refund of up to 100% of tuition paid, excluding any non-refundable payment processing fees or other expressly identified non-refundable charges.
    • After 1–5 Mentor Sessions: If the student has completed five (5) or fewer mentor sessions, the student is eligible for a refund for any unused mentor sessions remaining in the program. The value of completed sessions will be deducted from the amount otherwise eligible for refund. For refund purposes, each mentor session is valued equally: the tuition paid for the program divided by the number of mentor sessions it includes.
    • After More Than 5 Mentor Sessions: Once a student has completed more than five (5) mentor sessions, tuition is non-refundable, including for any remaining or unused sessions.
    • For purposes of this policy, a mentor session is considered completed once the scheduled session has taken place, regardless of whether the student uses the entire scheduled session time.
    • Refund requests must be submitted to TFW in writing and sent to info@TFW.org. Refund eligibility will be determined based on the date TFW receives the written cancellation request and the number of mentor sessions completed as of that date.
    • Any approved refund will be returned using the original payment method whenever reasonably possible and will be processed within 30 days of request.
    • Refund requests for unused mentor sessions must be submitted within twelve (12) months of the tuition payment date. After that, any unused sessions that would otherwise be eligible for refund will be converted to a non-refundable credit toward a future The Foreword program.
    • Pathfinder Lab, an optional add-on to the 10-session Research Fellowship, may be purchased at any time. The refund policy outlined above applies equally to the three one-hour sessions included in Pathfinder Lab.
    • Launch Lab, an optional add-on to the 10-session Research Fellowship, may be purchased at any time prior to completion of the student's research project. The refund policy outlined above applies equally to the three one-hour sessions included in Launch Lab.
  6. Missed and Rescheduled Mentor Sessions Students are expected to attend scheduled mentor sessions and communicate promptly with their mentor regarding scheduling changes. TFW may establish reasonable requirements regarding advance notice for cancellations or rescheduling. A session missed by a student without the required notice may be considered a completed session and may therefore not be eligible for refund or replacement. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice count as one completed session. As a one-time courtesy, TFW may reinstate one missed session per program. If a mentor must cancel a scheduled session, TFW and/or the mentor will make reasonable efforts to reschedule the session without reducing the number of sessions available to the student.
  7. Program and Mentor Changes + Mentor Match Guarantee TFW makes reasonable efforts to match students with mentors based on the student’s interests, proposed project, availability, and program goals. TFW does not guarantee placement with any particular mentor. TFW reserves the right to change or replace a mentor when reasonably necessary due to availability, scheduling, professional circumstances, program needs, or other circumstances. If a mentor becomes unavailable, TFW will make all reasonable efforts to provide an appropriate replacement or another reasonable program solution. TFW offers a Mentor Match Guarantee. If you are unhappy with your Mentor match after the first session, we will provide a new match or a full refund.
  8. Student Participation The Foreword is a mentorship-based educational program. Students are expected to participate actively, attend scheduled sessions, communicate professionally with mentors and TFW staff, and complete agreed-upon work between sessions when applicable. The quality, scope, and completion of a student’s final project depend in part on the student’s participation, effort, responsiveness, and adherence to agreed-upon timelines. TFW cannot guarantee any particular academic, publication, admissions, competition, or other external outcome as a result of participation.
  9. Fellowship Terms & Conditions:
    1. Fellowship Eligibility Submission of a Fellowship application does not guarantee acceptance. Fellowship participants are selected by TFW in its discretion based on the applicable selection criteria, program requirements, available capacity, and other relevant considerations.
    2. Fellowship Participation Requirements Fellows are expected to comply with all applicable TFW guidelines, protocols, procedures, behavioral expectations, deadlines, and staff directives throughout the Fellowship. Fellows are also responsible for completing all required Fellowship components, which may include pre-program assignments, mentor or staff meetings, independent work, research or project development, and any required final assignments or projects.
    3. Fellowship Completion and Benefits To successfully complete the Fellowship and receive any associated Fellowship recognition, benefits, credentials, certificates, recommendations, project review, or other benefits, the student must satisfactorily complete all required components of the Fellowship. Failure to satisfy Fellowship requirements does not entitle the student to a full or partial refund of tuition.
    4. Proprietary Fellowship Materials Fellowship curricula, instructional materials, templates, training resources, guides, methodologies, and other materials provided by TFW are proprietary materials and are intended solely for the participating student’s personal educational use. Students may not reproduce, publish, post online, distribute, sell, sublicense, or otherwise share proprietary Fellowship materials with third parties without prior written authorization from TFW. Students may share Fellowship materials with their parent or legal guardian for purposes related to the student’s participation in the Fellowship.
  10. Fellowship Project Material Release As part of the Fellowship, students may create and submit written work, research, photographs, videos, audio recordings, presentations, graphics, project materials, or other original content (collectively, the “Fellowship Project Materials”). The student retains ownership of original Fellowship Project Materials created by the student, subject to the license granted below. By accepting these Terms & Conditions, the student and the student’s parent or legal guardian grant Terra Education Travel, LLC and The Foreword, and their respective successors and assigns, a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to reproduce, display, publish, distribute, adapt, edit, excerpt, record, and otherwise use Fellowship Project Materials submitted to TFW. This license includes the right to use Fellowship Project Materials, in whole or in part, in connection with TFW and Terra educational, editorial, promotional, marketing, and program-related materials in any media or format now known or later developed, including websites, program catalogs, presentations, publications, email communications, and social media. For example, photographs, written work, video, or other materials submitted as part of a Fellowship Project may be featured on a TFW website, included in a program catalog, highlighted in program communications, or shared through social media. TFW may edit or adapt submitted materials for formatting, length, clarity, branding, or other reasonable purposes, provided that such use does not intentionally materially misrepresent the student’s work.
  11. Rights to Submitted Materials The student represents that, to the best of their knowledge, Fellowship Project Materials submitted by the student are either: 1. the student’s original work; or 2. materials for which the student has obtained the permissions or rights reasonably necessary for the intended submission and use. Students are responsible for appropriately identifying or crediting third-party materials incorporated into their Fellowship Projects where required. Students may not knowingly submit material that infringes another person’s copyright, privacy, publicity, intellectual property, or other legal rights. The license granted to TFW and Terra does not prevent the student from continuing to use, publish, submit, develop, or otherwise benefit from the student’s own original work.
  12. Parent and Student Consent By accepting these Terms & Conditions, both the student and the student’s parent or legal guardian acknowledge and agree to the Fellowship Terms & Conditions and Fellowship Project Material Release described above.
  13. Email and Text Message Communications TFW uses email and text messaging to communicate with students and families regarding enrollment, scheduling, mentor coordination, program logistics, reminders, and other program-related matters. By enrolling in a TFW program and providing an email address and/or mobile phone number, students and parents or legal guardians consent to receive program-related communications from TFW through those channels. Message frequency will vary based on program needs. Standard message and data rates imposed by the recipient’s mobile carrier may apply. Recipients may opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP to a TFW text message or by notifying TFW in writing. After opting out, the recipient will no longer receive program information by text and should ensure that email and other available communication channels are regularly monitored. Phone numbers provided to TFW will be used for program-related communications and will not be sold or shared with third parties for their independent promotional or marketing purposes. TFW is not responsible for communications that are not received due to inaccurate or outdated contact information, carrier or technology failures, spam filtering, a recipient’s decision to opt out of a communication channel, or other circumstances outside TFW’s reasonable control.
  14. Child Safeguarding and Protection The Foreword (“TFW”) is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive online learning environment for all students, particularly minors under the age of 18. TFW maintains child safeguarding standards and procedures designed to protect students from abuse, exploitation, harassment, inappropriate conduct, and other forms of harm.
    1. Mentor Conduct and Professional Boundaries All mentors and staff are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students and comply with TFW's safeguarding policies and codes of conduct. Communications between mentors and students must take place through TFW-approved platforms and channels. Inappropriate personal contact, harassment, exploitation, grooming, or other misconduct is strictly prohibited.
    2. Online Learning and Student Safety Students and mentors must comply with established online learning safety protocols, including requirements regarding virtual meeting environments, appropriate communications, confidentiality, and the use of approved technology platforms.
    3. Reporting Safeguarding Concerns Students, parents, and legal guardians are encouraged to promptly report any concerns regarding student safety, inappropriate conduct, suspected abuse, or violations of safeguarding standards to TFW through its designated reporting channels. TFW will review reported concerns promptly, take appropriate protective measures, and make reports to child protective services, law enforcement, or other relevant authorities when required by applicable law.
    4. Mandatory Reporting and Safeguarding Responsibilities TFW requires mentors, staff, and other individuals working with students to comply with applicable child protection and mandatory reporting laws, as well as TFW's internal safeguarding and incident-reporting procedures.
    5. Protective Action TFW reserves the right to suspend or terminate a mentor's or student's participation, restrict communications, or take other appropriate action when necessary to protect student safety or address suspected violations of safeguarding policies. By participating in The Foreword, students and their parents or legal guardians acknowledge and agree to comply with applicable safeguarding policies and student safety requirements communicated by TFW.
  15. Changes to These Terms TFW reserves the right to update these Terms & Conditions when reasonably necessary. The Terms & Conditions in effect at the time of enrollment will generally govern the student’s enrollment unless a subsequent change is required by law or the student and TFW otherwise agree in writing.
  16. Acknowledgment and Agreement By enrolling in The Foreword and accepting these Terms & Conditions, the student and the student’s parent or legal guardian, where applicable, acknowledge that they have reviewed, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions, including all applicable tuition, payment, refund, Fellowship, intellectual property, material release, and communication provisions.
