Please indicate the days of the week/hours you might be available for volunteer work. The hours we typically need volunteer help are 10:00 am to 5:00 am Monday through Thursday.







Thank you for your interest in volunteering with SDV.  Please read the following statement:

Service Dogs of Virginia Agrees to:

  1. Offer volunteer orientation, as well as on-going training opportunities
  2. Provide leadership for our volunteer team, and discuss any concerns or suggestions
  3. Provide needed feedback on individual volunteer performance and keep open lines of communication
  4. Keep volunteers informed of opportunities to be involved with SDV programs, services & events
  5. Recognize volunteer achievement

Volunteer Agrees to:

  1. Become familiar with SDV programs and services
  2. Commit to a weekly (or other) schedule and notify us if you are not able to attend your scheduled time, and agrees to give us 48 hours notice, when possible
  3. Accept guidance of your supervisor
  4. Maintain the integrity of SDV while working with the public
  5. Honor confidential information
  6. Treat our animals and people with care and compassion

Prerequisit for working with SDV dogs:

All volunteers must complete a 5 week training class before working with our dogs. Puppy raisers and training assistants given priority for class availability. (exception: puppy sitters)

Puppy Raiser : Having a fenced in yard, or willingness to provide a fence or temporary fencing for the puppy. Availability to come to puppy class 1x week.

Puppy Sitter: Having a fenced in yard, or willingness to provide a fence or temporary fencing. Attending 2-3 training sessions for dog handling.

Training Volunteer: Availability Monday-Thursday to commit to a time to come in and work with trainers and dogs.
